Shopping My Closet: San Francisco

If you had the opportunity to go to one of your favorite places, but you had to leave in an hour, would you go? I would hope the answer is yes, and if it is, what would you pack?

Circumstances unfolded in the most beautiful way this past Tuesday, putting me on a plane to San Francisco at 7 pm that evening. We made the decision and bought the ticket at 3:30, and about three hours later, I was sitting on a plane. The 3.5 hours between decision and flight were eaten up by driving home from the office, packing, driving to the airport, getting through security and chugging a Caramel Macchiato. And then a surreal flight to a place with a 30-degree temperature difference, but back to packing.

Packing for a trip is usually something I spend a day or two on. I go on Polyvore and build outfits, then strategically pack everything neatly in my suitcase, leave it open at the foot of my staircase for a few hours or until the next day, adding and subtracting as needed. On Tuesday, I had zero time to accomplish any of that. I went off the ideas in my head, pulled a bunch of random items together, zipped it shut and ran out the door.

When you get the opportunity to do something spontaneous, how do you react? Do you shrink away because of the "what-ifs," or do you throw your favorite items into a carry-on and go make an experience out of it all? Me, I grabbed that spontaneous bull by the horns and rolled with it all the way to San Francisco.

Below is the amalgamation of items that made the carry-on cut for SF.

Obviously, when you pack in a hurry, some things take up space but never make an appearance. Those cobalt blue pants, the embellished sweater, the AE jeans, the black Madewell shirt and the heels never even left the suitcase. The most clutch item packed? Those Nike sneakers. When you're walking all over the hills of San Francisco, you don't have time for barely-padded flats; you need traction.

Okay, I'm more than a little obsessed with the bridges there, but let's face it, who isn't?

Now go make a Friday out of this Monday.
